Shopify discount codes for more sales

Shopify Discount codes

Offering Shopify discount codes for your customers might be a good marketing strategy. But in the future, online merchants will have to decide whether to offer discounts, when and how much of a discount should be offered .

Offering discounts can be a powerful weapon to your online business. But it can do great damage to your brand unless you use them carefully.

In here, you will be aware of the pros and cons of offering deals in your online store and how to use Shopify discount codes in a most effective way.

How to gain customer retention with Shopify discount codes?

Customer retention

Customer retention is a one fact that decides the reliability if a store. You have to make sure that the customer do not defect to another store or a brand.

When it comes to online retail, the customer advocacy plays an important role. So focusing on what is best for customers is the most beneficial and effective thing for a brand.Because it is important that the customer is consistent with your brand based on their experience of interacting with you.

The most effective way to drive customer loyalty is to offer convincing deals and discounts.

Pros and Cons of using Shopify discount codes in online stores

You can increase customer loyalty through offers and deals. But when using offers, you have to think twice.

Pros of online store offers

  • Increased conversions.
  • Increased customer acquisition and loyalty.
  • Quickly move stocks
  • Meet sales goals.
  • Easy and quick to implement natively in Shopify or using apps.
  • Easy to track with Shopify’s Discounts Reports.

Cons of online store offers

  • Decreased conversions outside of sale periods because they wait for offers.
  • Attract customers outside your target market.
  • Decreased margins and profitability.
  • Possible brand damage.
  • Tendency to drive price-driven or non-loyal shoppers.
  • Tendency to reduce average order size.

What are the right offers, coupons and discounts for your brand?

Offers and discounts can do wonders in your online business. Because they either make your brand sales hit the roof or go down the drain. So what’s more important is to make your strategies right.

Suppose you have slimmer margins and want to position yourself as a higher-end brand. Then it is okay for you to stick with customer loyalty offers.

But if you have healthy margins, you have other options. Such as selling low priced products in larger quantities. So you can try giving deep discounts and hold weekly sales. But you should follow these while staying competitive.

In online business, the best approach to choose what works the best is experimentation.

Types of offers, coupons, and discounts

Let’s take a look at the most common types of offers and discounts.

  • Percentage-based discount
  • Dollar value discount
  • Free shipping
  • Free gift

Percentage-based discount

One of the most common ways of offering discounts. From small incentive to higher percentages like 50% can be used to boost the sales. Can easily apply to multiple collections, production and locations in Shopify. And also offer them based on a specific purchase, like “Buy two sneakers, get 50% off any sweater.”

Dollar value discount

dollar value discount

Pair one of these with a minimum purchase amount to increase its impact, like “Spend $200, get $20 off.”. This offers make people feel like they are wasting money if they don’t use it.

When deciding between a percentage and a fixed amount discount, you have to keep in mind about the rule of 100. If your product costs less than $100.00, use a percentage discount. If it is higher, use a fixed amount discount. This is a psychological trick that will result in the highest perceived value for your customers.

Free Shipping

Shipping cost can make people turn away from online purchasing. Hence, offering free shipping may increase your average order value. You can set this up as a shipping setting in Shopify. You can even combine your free shipping offer with a 20% Shopify discount codes for email subscribers.

Free gift

free gift

A free gift with a purchase will gain the attention of customers if used strategically. It can also be used to get rid of product that isn’t moving. You can set a minimum purchase requirement or a volume requirement to get a Shopify discount code.

Each of these can be offered using two different types of discounts:

  • Automatic discounts
  • Discount codes

Automatic discounts

automatic discount

These are applied to very eligible cart. Customers are able to view them on the cart page before they start the checkout process.  So it does not require to enter a discount code.

This adds up to smoother experience for your customers. As a result you get potentially higher conversion rates.

Skipping the code can help encourage orders, and speed up checkouts too.

In September 2019, U.S. customers who checked out on Shopify with a discount were 1.8 times more likely to place an order without a discount. And they checked out 25 seconds faster with an automatic discount compared to a Shopify discount code.

Discount codes

Discount codes are codes that your customers enter during the checkout process to redeem a specific offer. They’re a tried-and-true way to offer discounts to the right people.

Using Shopify discount codes can also help you track the success of your marketing efforts. Creating a separate discount codes for each campaign can help you see the relative impact on sales.

Example: A popular online retailer offers free shipping for orders over $150.

Exclusive social offers

Providing exclusive offers on your social networks can be very effective to build customer loyalty. And also to attract new customers and subscribers on your social channels. As a result you can expand your market.

Example: An online auto accessories store displays an exit intent offer through pop-up. They offer a discount in exchange for your email. If users abandon the shopping cart, they will get an abandoned cart email with a higher discount.

Re-targeted  Promotions

You can offer Shopify discount codes for the people who have visited your store before. This will remind them to return and purchase again from you.

Example: An online store use offers several times throughout the buying process to gain customers. They use re-targeted ads that provide 20% off for the next purchase.

Just as you can drive online sales with offers, you can also drive in-person sales. This can be at your brick-and-mortar location or at in-person events.

Example: A house-ware store sends coupons with discounts for in-store purchases. They also provide a relatively longer duration to purchase.

Event attendance offers

Rewarding the attendees of your events with Shopify discount codes or free gifts might be helpful to maintain the bond with engaged customers. Because, it’ll encourage them to attend for your next event.

Example: An online pet care forum held a pet owners gathering and offered them exclusive Shopify discount codes for both in-person and online purchasing.

Customer milestone discounts

Customer-brand milestones are especially important in a customer loyalty program. These milestones could be personal to the customer, such as a birthday or anniversary. Other milestones can be the date they joined your program or the first purchase. You can offer them Shopify discount codes for the commemoration.

Example: An online retail store provides special discounts for customers on their birthday and on the day they joined their customer loyalty program.

Make the most of your offers, coupons and discounts

Offers and discounts are not used whenever or however you want. So if you understand your priorities, you can effectively use Shopify discount codes and other offers. Willingness to experiment will make it easier to go step by step.

Tips For Shopify Product Descriptions in Shopify Store

Shopify ProductsIt’s a common mistake among even professional copywriters. They write product descriptions that just describe the Shopify products and nothing more.

Why is this wrong?
Because product descriptions ought to sell products and not just describe them.

Are there ways to correct such mistakes?

Let’s take a quick look at 5 simple tips for writing Shopify product descriptions that sell.

1.Focusing On The Ideal Buyer
Your descriptions become ineffective when they are written with a large crowd of buyers in mind. You may miss the point.

The fact is that the best Shopify products descriptions are addressed to your ideal buyers personally and directly. You put yourself in their shoes. You endeavor to ask and answer relevant questions as if you are having a sale conversation with them.

You carefully choose the words your ideal buyers use.
Consider how you would likely speak to an ideal buyer face-to-face in a store.Try and adopt this conversational language and tone in efforts to sell products online.

2.Enticing With Benefits
We,as sellers, tend to get too much excited with features and specifications. We are easily carried away by the thoughts of our website, blog, company, and products.

However, potential customers aren’t so concerned about mundane specs and features. They rather want to know what values the features will give them. They want value for their money. This is why you must highlight and emphasize the different benefits of each special feature.

Consider how your product will make the customers feel healthier, happier, and more productive.Identify the glitches and problems your products can help users solve and tell them.

Sell your invaluable experience, don’t just sell a product.

3.Appealing to Your Customers’ Imagination
It has been scientifically proven that if a person holds a product in hand, the desire to possess it increases.

But you’re an online seller ,and your site visitors can’t hold the products. This is why you need to optimize your site for visitors to clearly see the product pictures.Videos and clear pictures can help. Also, there’s a copywriting method of increasing desire-letting your readers imagine what it’d be like to have your products.

4.Cutting Through Rational Thinking Barriers with a Mini-Story
Putting a mini-story in your product description will help lower rational thinking barriers as against persuasion. In other words, your readers easily forget they are being persuaded to buy a product.

5.Seduce With Sensory Words
The best restaurants have discovered that sensory words help increase sales. This is because these words and phrases engage our reasoning faculty.

Adjectives can be very tricky words. You may think that they add no extra meaning to your descriptions. However, some sensory adjectives are powerful enough to make readers experience the sale copy while merely reading.

Finally, all these and more useful tips can be applied to write quality descriptions that sell more Shopify products.

5. Add Your Products to The Store

6. Payment gateways

A payment gateway allows you to take payment from your customers via your website. The price and commission rate is important, but it’s also important to see what features they offer. Not all payment gateways are created equal.

Transaction Fees
When you take a payment, some gateways will keep a small percentage or flat fee (or sometimes both) for letting you use their service. Compare these based on what your anticipated sales are.

Card Types
You need to know what types of card are accepted by your chosen Payment Gateway. All accept VISA and Mastercard, while most accept American Express. Paypal is also becoming popular for online payments.

Offsite Checkout
Some gateways will take the payment on their own servers via their own form. This means the customer is taken away from your checkout and they pay on the form provided by your payment gateway. They are then redirected to your confirmation page once the customer successfully pays. This allows you to have a bit more control of the checkout process. Now you can circumvent Shopify’s limitations in that they don’t let you customise the checkout other than with CSS.

6. Get Your Online Shop “LIVE”
Before your site can go live you need to add a few more details about your company and how you plan to make deliveries and pay tax.

Make sure all your business information is filled out on this page. Also, make sure to make use of the Google Analytics feature. This can prove to be an invaluable source for tracking your store visitors.

7. General Shopify settings

From your store admin, go to the Settings > Shipping page.
you can create Shipping Zones,  and Shipping rates based on price or weight

Test your order system
To test your system you can simulate a transaction using Shopify’s Bogus Gateway.

To use the Bogus Gateway:

From your store Admin, click Settings, then Payments to go to your Payments settings
If you have a credit card gateway enabled, deactivate it before continuing. (Click Edit, then Deactivate, then confirm your deactivation.)
In the Accept credit cards section, click Select a Credit Card Gateway to open the drop-down menu.
Scroll down the list to Other, then click (for testing) Bogus Gateway.
Click Activate (or Reactivate, if you’ve used the Bogus Gateway before).
Go to your storefront and place an order as a customer would. At checkout, enter the following credit card details instead of genuine numbers:
Testing a real payment gateway with a genuine transaction:

Make sure you’ve set up the payment gateway you want to test.
Make a purchase from your store as a customer would, and complete checkout using genuine credit card details.
Cancel the order immediately, to refund yourself and avoid paying transaction fees.
Log in to your payment gateway to make sure the funds went through.
Is this free?
Yes – just be sure to cancel and refund the order soon after you place it.

If your billing cycle hits after you’ve placed the test order but before you cancel it, the transaction fees will appear on your bill. You can still cancel after paying your bill to Shopify, but you’ll receive the refund as a transaction credit on your account. You can use transaction credits to pay future transaction fees.

Consider Buying a Domain Name
To get your site live you’ll need a domain name. You have two choices for this. Firstly you can buy a domain from Shopify and it will be added to your store automatically. This saves you time, especially if you have no knowledge of hosting a website. These domains typically cost $9-$14 USD per year. Your second option is to purchase a domain from a third party such as GoDaddy. These domains start from $1.99 USD a year. The downside is that you’ll have to redirect the DNS records yourself which can seem daunting at first. Setting up your domain is not something you have to do often, but it’s important that you do it properly the first time.

How payment gateways work

When a customer places an order from your  online store, the payment gateway performs several tasks to finalize the transaction:

Encryption: The web browser encrypts the data to be sent to your online store. The gateway then sends the transaction data to the payment processor utilized by the acquiring bank.

Authorization Request: The payment processor sends the transaction details to a card association. The credit card’s issuing bank views the authorization request and “approves” or “denies.”

Filling the Order: The processor then forwards an authorization pertaining to the merchant and consumer to the payment gateway. Once the gateway obtains this response, it transmits it to the online store to process the payment. Here, it is interpreted and an appropriate response is generated. This seemingly complicated and lengthy process typically takes only a few seconds at most. At this point, your online store sends notifications to merchant and vendor, the delivery team about the order if it is approved.

Clearing Transactions

The steps outlined above are repeated in an effort to “clear” the authorization via a consummation of the transaction. However, the clearing is only triggered once the merchant has actually completed the transaction. The issuing bank changes the “auth-hold” to a debit, allowing a “settlement” with the vendor’s acquiring bank. The processor is then relied upon to settle all of the vendor’s approved authorizations with the acquiring bank at the end of the day.
